Landet i midten

Stort
Ekstremt
I midten
høflighed
underdanighed
de er flittige
Generte, ærværdige, og ambitøse
Mandige mænd

Byen er enorm.
Organisk. Uoverskuelig

Bilerne dytter ivrigt i deres offensive kørsel

Vejarbejderne pumper mekanisk deres spader i vejen.

Maskinel dygtighed, Mekanisk fremgang
En gigantisk fabrik

Glade grinende kinesere tager billeder med dig
På skift og på tværs.
Op og ned og igen

Hieraki og ære.
Del og hersk

Status. Køn. Familie. Økonomi
Kultur, natur.
  byliv, normer, mad og mennesker.
ydmyghed overfor tilværelsen
taknemmelige livsanskuelser

Støvet, varmen, sammenholdet, sproget;
maden som jeg overdådigt får serveret;
udfordringerne og oplevelserne.
Jeg vil det hele.

Proximity

En appelsin.
Se en appelsin.
Rundhed. Gulhed.
Saft og sødme.
Se appelsinen
Solmoden.
Inhaler

En abe.
Stor, lodden, pelset.
Tør. Beskidt. Lugtende.
Stirrer ud i luften

Måske overvejer den sin tilværelse

Ruslana Korshunova

The 20-year-old Ruslana Korshunova was found dead outside her downtown Manhattan building after eyewitnesses described seeing a body plunge nine floors from a balcony.

"Lørdag d 28. juni 2008. To mænd, der hørte det, løb hen og fandt Ruslana Korshunovas knuste krop. Et smukt lig, lagde vidnerne mærke til, mens de så kroppens sidste sitren. Det ser ud til at hun sprang fra hendes lejlighed, efter at have skåret hul i bygningsarbejderes sikkerhedsnet foran hendes altan på niende etage. Selvmord.

Hun var efterspurgt af de store modehuse. En ven fortæller at hun var "on top of the world".

Friends have since cast doubts that the successful Kazakh would have had reason to end her life. "There's no way she would have killed herself," Kira Titeneva, a friend from Korshunova's home town, told the New York Daily News. "She loved life so much".

Investigators have reportedly found no signs of a struggle inside Korshunova's apartment and a spokeswoman for New York's medical examiner said that Korshunova died from blunt impact injuries.

It has been suggested that the model may have been desperate to get out of the fashion industry but been prevented from doing so by murky underworld bosses who manage the Eastern European models.

Stricken child crawling towards a food camp [1994]

The photo is the “Pulitzer Prize” winning photo taken in 1994 during the Sudan Famine.

The picture depicts a stricken child crawling towards an United Nations food camp, located a kilometer away. The vulture is waiting for the child to die so that it can eat him. This picture shocked the whole world.

No one knows what happened to the child, including the photographer Kevin Carter who left the place as soon as the photograph was taken. Three months later he committed suicide due to depression.

The Mexican fisher

An American businessman took a vacation to a small coastal Mexican village on doctor’s orders. Unable to sleep after an urgent phone call from the office the first morning, he walked out to the pier to clear his head. A small boat with just one fisherman had docked, and inside the boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish.

“How long did it take you to catch them?” the American asked.

“Only a little while,” the Mexican replied in surprisingly good English.

“Why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish?” the American then asked.

“I have enough to support my family and give a few to friends,” the Mexican said as he unloaded them into a basket.

“But… What do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican looked up and smiled. “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Julia, and stroll into the village each evening, where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life, senor.”

The American laughed and stood tall. “Sir, I’m a Harvard M.B.A. and can help you. You should spend more time fishing, and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. In no time, you could buy several boats with the increased haul. Eventually, you would have a fleet of fishing boats.”

He continued, “Instead of selling your catch to a middleman, you would sell directly to the consumers, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village, of course, and move to Mexico City, then to Los Angeles, and eventually to New York City, where you could run your expanded enterprise with proper management.

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, senor, how long will all this take?”

To which the American replied, “15-20 years, 25 tops.”

“But what then, senor?”

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part. When the time is right, you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become every rich. You would make millions.”

“Millions senor? When what?

“Then you would retire and move to a small coastal fishing village, where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, and stroll in to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos…”
